LDV D90 Unveiled In Australia

The pickup-based 4WD wagon market in Australia may soon have a more affordable entry point, with the local unveiling of the LDV D90.

Around a week after the D90 was spotted testing in New South Wales, LDV chose Kiama on the South Coast for the official world reveal.

The Chinese carmaker has signalled its desire to latch onto the large SUV segment in Australia, keen to woo buyers away from the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu D-Max, Ford Everest and Holden Trailblazer.

Almost all of the aforementioned have one thing in common: a starting price around $47,000 when 4WD models are considered.

The Pajero Sport is the exception, with a cheaper $45,000 opener. With seven seats and standard automatic transmission, it’s no surprise then that the Pajero Sport outsold the others in the pickup-based 4WD sales race last month by a comfortable margin.

Should the D90 manage to beat the Pajero Sport’s entry price while matching (or exceeding) it for equipment, Australian 4WD buyers might just give it a second look.

Pricing and features are yet to be confirmed for the new wagon, but LDV does confirm that the D90 will be available with seven seats.

A possible inclusion is the same 110kW, 2.8 litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that will power LDV’s T60 pickup – due to arrive in Australia in the next few months.

The LDV D90 is due to arrive before the end of this year, and along with the T60, will join LDV’s V80 and G10 vans in the local line-up.
