It’s been a slow week at the Loaded 4X4 news desk but that’s all changed as Billy, our intern, has just run a fax up from the mailroom and it contains a startling revelation from Ford Australia.
Ford has decided to sell its Ranger XLT spec double cab, without a styleside tray fitted.
They’re calling it a ‘Cab Chassis’.
“Owners have told us that they want to save time and money with a ready-to-go, high-spec Ranger Cab Chassis that they can purchase straight off the showroom floor, and the 4X4 XLT Double Cab Chassis is here for these customers, be they tradespeople, adventurers or explorers,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand.
The Ranger XLT Double Cab Chassis will be available with a choice of two drivetrains, either the 10-speed automatic, 2.0-litre 157kW/500Nm Bi-Turbo diesel, or ye old 6-speed auto strapped to 3.2-litres of five-cylinder 147kW/470Nm turbo-diesel.
All you really need to know is that you’ll save $1,000 buying the cab-chassis rather than the styleside ute version of the XLT, and that’s a good thing if your plan includes a custom tray setup.
The XLT Double Cab Chassis will be arriving at a Ford dealer near you, in December.
