The folks over at JL Wrangler Forums have come up trumps again, this time with a photo, sans any disguise, of the next-generation Jeep Wrangler Unlimited…or Sport – the jury seems to be out on the exact spec shown.
The image is believed to have been taken on the factory floor at the Wrangler plant in Toledo and interestingly, it confirms that the JL Wrangler Forum’s renderings, have been uncannily on-the-mark.
The new JL Wrangler, from a styling perspective, is all about finessing the details and as such, it looks from a distance, much like the current Wrangler. Take a closer look and there are a host of detail changes that sharpen the styling and smooth out the aerodynamics to a small degree.
As predicted by the JL Wrangler Forum’s renderings, the new Wrangler will feature a front guard vent, redesigned body coloured hinges, buttonless door pull-handle and a body character line that harks back to the TJ Wrangler.
In this picture, the new Wrangler is wearing a black canvas soft-top and black wheel-arch flares, both items known to be returning as options.
It’s previously been confirmed that the new Wrangler will be available with a choice of two versions of the 3.6-litre Pentastar petrol V6, two variants of the 2.0-litre turbo-charged petrol four-cylinder, as well as a 2.2 and 3.0 litre diesel option.
It is speculated that the high-outputs from the 2.0-litre turbo fours – the most powerful of which produces 225kW – result in a considerable amount of under-bonnet heat and that this may be the reason for the vents being added to the front guards.
We are expecting the new Wrangler to debut late this year, with a dual-cab ute version to follow around a year later.
